Anxiety

Our world is moving at such a fast pace that anxiety is the number one mental issue in America today.  Many people don't identify they are living a chronically anxiety ridden lifestyle until their physical health starts to be affected. Balancing responsibilites, work, family life, children, friends, traffic, etc. can be challenging.

Over 50% of people diagnosed with depression also suffer from anxiety.

Learning tools and techniques can greatly reduce anxiety and improve physical health as well.

Relationships

Coming from a Marriage and Family background, relationships are the foundation of our lives. As relational beings we are shaped by our families and friends as well as environment and experiences. Since every person is unique with their own traits and characterist-ics, relationships can often be challenging.  Whether the relationship is between family members, couples, or friends, each person shares in the relationship.

Learning how to communicate is the first step to creating meaningful and enriching relationships.

Trauma/Abuse

Sometimes we find ourselves overwhelmed by experiences that are beyond our control. Natural disasters, accidents, illnesses, abuse, life transitions and assaults can alter how we perceive our world and changes how we feel about our lives.  Distress can develop over a long period of time or occur from one specific event.  I use mindfulness, acceptance, and understanding to shed light in these areas so clients can work through them in a proactive manner.  I also am a  Certified Domestic Violence Group Facilitator and Therapist through Haven Hills 40 hour program.

Depression

Depression affects many Americans today and there has been a recent increase in adults and adolescents dealing with the symptoms.  About 1 in 10 people will experience depression during their lifetime with women at a higher risk.

Some features of Depression:

  • Sleep Difficulties

  • Loss of Interest

  • Significant Weight Changes

  • Diminished Concentration

  • Fatigue

  • Feelings of Worthlessness

  • Depressed Mood

Many factors can contribute to depression: divorce, recent move, career changes, and family conflict.  Psychotherapy can help people identify the negative cycle and shed some light on aspects of concern.

Group Therapy

  • Domestic Violence Survivors

  • Sexual Trauma Survivors

  • Adolescent Transitions Support

  • Nurturing Parenting

  • Support for Chronic Conditions and Caregivers

Group Therapy has shown to connect people in a supportive and collective way to share and express with others who have similar stories and experiences.  Each member in the group is part of the whole and this creates a holistic healing environment.  I utlilize mindfulness, art, and at times expressive arts to facilitate deeper meaning and neurological connections.  As relational beings, personal growth can be obtained by simply connecting with others in a safe space.  Confidentiality is highly encouraged in all groups to build trust and connection.

Adolescent Therapy

Teens and preteens today are faced with an extraordinary amount of societal influence which may or may not be the most beneficial to their developmental stage and growth.  The teen years are for wonderment and exploration of social relationships.  In our current social state, teens are becoming more isolated and increasingly suffering from anxiety and depression as well as other forms of mental and emotional distress.  My aim in working with adolescents is to create a safe, trusting, and nurturing relationship with them to help them navigate the complicated world they find themselves in.  Balancing school, relationships, family life, afterschool activities, and growing up can be a challenge without appropriate and consistent support, encouragement, and the tools to facilitate a healthy and happy child.
